18 Different Types of Bathroom Sinks

Bathroom sinks are available in the market depending on their styles, designs, and manufacturing materials. You can select them according to your interior space and personal requirements.

Different types of bathroom sinks include U-shaped, rectangular, square, circular, and oval based on their shape. Based on the manufacturing material, the sinks are porcelain, glass, stainless steel, plastic, and stone type. These are under-mount, console, pedestals, Washplane, wall-mounted, vanity sinks, and self-rimming types based on their style and installation method.

They are an integral part of the bathroom and change the overall look. Many people complain that sometimes it becomes difficult for them to select the correct fixture because of their various types.

Types of bathroom sinks based on their shape

Bathroom sinks come in various shapes, and installation method is different. You can select them according to your interior space and usability.

U-shaped

Many people in the modern era tend to add U-shaped sinks in their bathrooms because of their stylish appearance. These have a U-curve at one side while another corner is flat and straight.

You need larger vanities for them because they take up extra installation space. You can also mount them on the walls because of the flattened mounting end.

These are available in different sizes, and you can select them according to the interior dimensions. The mounting method is easy when installing them with walls because you only need screws to secure them.

Rectangular and square

You can also see rectangular and square-shaped sinks in the bathroom. These have the same shape but are slightly different in their dimensions.

All four sides are the same in a square shape, while rectangular types have different widths and lengths. These fixtures are in style and give a modern appearance to your space.

Many people do not add these to smaller bathrooms because they occupy much space in the vanity area. These require more cleaning effort because dirt and mineral residues accumulate easily in their hidden corners.

Round and oval

Round and oval sinks also differ from each other because of their dimensions. I also added the oval ones; these are slightly old-fashioned but give a traditional look.

These are deeper and do not allow water to come outside on the vanity and floors. These are easy to clean because they do not contain any hidden corners.

Flat and deep surfaces allow the quick movement of water in drains and less clogging chances. These are safe for children because of the absence of sharp corners.

Types of bathroom sinks on the basis of their manufacturing material

Different manufacturing brands use distinct materials for manufacturing sinks, and you can select their material according to the frequency of use and their durability.

Porcelain or ceramic

Most bathroom sinks are made of porcelain and ceramic because of their durability. The material is suitable in high-traffic areas of your home because it is easy to clean.

These do not require frequent cleaning or any commercial-based harsh cleaners. Moreover, I prefer to add the ceramic ones because of their non-porous material and no water absorbance.

In addition, these can last for years without leaving any crack marks on their surfaces. It is necessary to prevent them from the impact of heavy objects because it is a heavy and dense material that is more prone to chipping.

Glass

These are made of tempered glass material to make them durable. These are easy to clean and look luxurious. You do not require any cleaner to clean them; simply wash them with water.

These are also easy to install because you do not require different drilling methods. Install the screws to secure them on the walls. These are made of sturdy material which can easily withstand frequent temperature changes.

Avoid pouring hot water in them for cleaning because it causes glass material to shatter.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel sinks are most present in public bathrooms and high-traffic areas of your home. These are less costly than other heavy materials and are easy to install.

These are not vulnerable to chipping and cracking and last for years. It is a durable and moisture-resistant material that prevents water-related damage.

In addition, moisture and heat cannot affect their overall shape and structure. These are beneficial to use because they resist bacteria and other germs.

These can also withstand scrubbing, and you cannot see any scratches on their surface. These require proper handling during cleaning because harsh chemicals can damage their finished coating.

Plastic and stones

Plastic and acrylic sinks are standard in markets nowadays because of their durable and lightweight material. In addition, it is the most suitable choice for the bathroom because of its anti-microbial and mold-resistance properties.

These are less vulnerable to scratching and creaking because of their manufacturing material. They are made of heavy stones, and these give a luxurious appearance.

These are heavy but more durable and last for more than 20 years. Moreover, you do not require any special maintenance to treat them.

Different Types of bathroom sinks on the basis of their style

Bathroom sinks are classified into different methods based on their style and mounting methods. These types require various mounting techniques.

Undermount

Undermount sinks, as their name indicates, are installed under the countertops. You cannot find their boundaries on the upper side of the counters.

It makes countertop cleaning easy because you can easily throw debris in them. In addition, these types are easy to clean because of their less exposed materials.

These are sanitary because of the absence of edges that allow mold, dirt, and water to accumulate on the sides. These provide more space on countertops because of their inward installation method.

Install and fix them carefully because incorrect installation leads to water accumulation on the countertops.

Console sinks

These are wall-mounted sinks and contain the countertops for their installation. The countertop is supported by the legs for storage of different materials.

You can add the drawers to increase the storage space and hand the towels and other materials on them. These give a modern appearance because of their sleek design.

The exposed plumbing parts can make the interior space more attractive and interesting. Moreover, the open layout provides easy accessibility and storage facilities.

Pedestal sink

Pedestal sinks are common in homes, containing two separate parts: an upper basin and a lower shaft. The primary purpose of the lower part is to hide the exposed plumbing parts and give a modern appearance.

These are suitable for larger bathrooms because they occupy more floor space. These are difficult to transport because of their separate parts.

These are beneficial because you cannot see any exposed plumbing system. In addition, I also added these because of their easy installation method.

However, these provide minimal countertop spaces, which can make storage challenging.

Washplane sinks

Washplane sinks are suitable for small bathrooms and give a modern appearance. These are also known as trough sinks because of trough on the lower side.

It contains a trough or supporting plate to collect water from the faucets. The faucets and drains are mounted with walls to save your interior space.

These do not contain any joints, which makes the cleaning procedure easy. These are germ and bacteria-free because of the absence of joining points.

These are less shallow, which can cause water splashes on floors when you use them incorrectly.

Wall-mounted or corner sinks

These are the most common sinks to save interior space and make them spacious. These are mounted with walls and are easy to install than other types.

These are beneficial because it does not disturb the cleaning procedure, and you can easily clean the floors on their lower side.

Moreover, it is necessary to install them correctly because incorrect installation cause them to fall on floors and damage the floor material.

You can also add the corner sinks; these are installed between the joining corner of two walls. It saves space on the walls; you can add them in smaller bathrooms with minimal space.

Vanity sinks

Vanity sinks are made of different materials, and you can install them on the upper side of the vanity area as a free-standing material.

In addition, you can also adjust them inside the counters without exposing their edges. The ones mounted on the upper side with exposed material look more modern and unique.

It provides a lot of countertop space to store different accessories. You can put different things on the sides to get ready while going out.
