In addition, you can also use tiles, wall paneling, anti-pee paints, and splash guards.
Protecting the bathroom walls from urine is necessary because it can produce a foul smell and stains and allow bacteria and viruses to reside on these surfaces.
Apply Glossy paints
Most bathrooms contain drywalls because of their low cost and easy installation. People install the waterproof type in these areas because of high humidity.
These are not completely waterproof but are only water resistant. Liquid urine can seep inside and disintegrate the paper product and gypsum material.
The choice of paints on bathroom walls makes them water resistant. Simpler paints cannot provide moisture-resistant properties, and water splashes can ruin these paints.
You can use high-quality glossy paints over the drywalls of your bathrooms. Glossy paints contain shiny and slippery surfaces, and liquid waste splashes cannot damage them.
Moreover, glossy paints make the surfaces water-resistant, and moisture does not seep inside. The slippery coat of these surfaces also makes them stain-free.
Convert toilets to stand-up urinals
Many people have a bad habit of urinating while standing near the toilets. Urination while standing increases the pressure, and its splashes come on the surrounding walls.

Do not fix these parts permanently over the seats because other people cannot use the fixtures. You can place them in the bathroom so people can place them when they want to use them.
Add partition between toilet and the wall
You can add the partition with different materials to separate the toilet area and prevent the walls from splashing. The issue comes when these fixtures are installed close to the bathroom walls.
You can use plastic or vinyl curtains around these fixtures so they cannot affect the surrounding objects. You can drill the hooks in the ceiling area and add the curtains with these hooks.
Moreover, you can also use plastic boards around them to separate them from the remaining interior. I also surrounded my toilet with waterproof plywood board because my kids pee on the walls.
Use waterproof caulking
Waterproof caulking materials are made of latex, rubber, silicon, and polymers. These are used to fill the gaps and install tiles or other paneling materials.
It is better to use high-quality waterproof caulking material to seal tiles on the bathroom walls. This is because urine splashes cannot deteriorate the high-quality material, and these are less susceptible to damage.
The low-quality caulking materials develop cracks when they come in contact with moisture. Waterproof types are durable and create a water-tight seal on bathroom surfaces.
Water-tight sealing does not allow the liquid paste to penetrate inside and damage them. You can make them hygienic by cleaning them with water and dishwashing detergents.
Plastic sheets
Plastic sheets are also available in markets, and you can use them on bathroom walls to protect them from urine-related deterioration.
Urine can splash back and not penetrate when you cover the exposed surfaces with plastic sheets. These are waterproof sheets and made of non-porous and impervious materials.
Wall surfaces cannot absorb moisture if these are present as a protective barrier. However, you can install them on the bottom side and select the color according to the interior paint.
You can use nails, caulking material, and adhesives for their application. These also come in the market with different designs, and you can select from them to give your bathroom an appealing and attractive appearance.
Coat walls with greasy material and essential oils
You can also coat the drywalls of your bathroom with greasy materials if these are not painted with waterproof and glossy paints.
You can make them water-resistant by coating their surface with greasy material. These greasy coats prevent urine from seeping inside the inner surfaces and prevent foul smells from the interiors.
The splashes remain on the polished surface; you can wash them with water. Use the wax material, apply it on a cloth, and buff the surface properly.
Take a clean cloth to remove the excess material because it allows the dust to accumulate on bathroom walls. You can also spray the nearby walls with anti-bacterial and deodorizing essential oils.
These essential oils act as a protective coating and mask the urination smell from your bathroom, which make you feel awkward in front of guests.
Use tiles or paneling
It is better to use tiles instead of painted walls to protect them from urine splashes and stains. In addition, tile surfaces are non-porous and do not allow water to penetrate inside.
Moreover, these are easy to clean, and stains cannot reside on their surface because of the waterproof material. Therefore, I have installed the paneling on the lower side of my bathroom walls near the toilets.
Paneling prevents their surfaces from moisture damage and makes them waterproof. Use plastic or vinyl panels because these are easy to clean and washable.
You can use panels instead of tiles because these are less costly and take less effort to install. In addition, you can install the paneling material on every type of wall. However, you need cement boards for installation times, making the process quite costly.
Anti-pee paint
Use anti-pee paints on the bathroom walls near urinals and toilets so urine splashes cannot affect damage and leave yellow stains on their surfaces.
These anti-pee paints contain a water-repellent layer that repels the liquid material instead of their absorption and penetration in the inner layer.
These paints are a good choice if you have children and pets at your home who can pee anywhere in the bathrooms. Moreover, these contain the hydrophobic compounds that make these coats liquid-repellent.
Clean the walls with dishwashing detergent and all-purpose cleaners before applying a coat of these paints. Dry the surfaces after cleaning and apply the anti-pee solution to them.
Turn on the fans in your bathrooms and open the windows for the drying procedure. Apply the second coat of these paints after drying the first coat.
You can also make anti-pee solutions at home by mixing vinegar, baking soda, water, and essential oils to coat the walls with them.
Splash guards
You can also add splash guards on the front side of the toilets so urine droplets cannot come on the surrounding bathroom wall and on your cloth.
These splash guards are made of plastic material and redirect the liquid urine directly into the bowl. Select the splash guards according to the size of your fixture and bowl.
These also come up with the installation kits containing the mounting screws. You can drill the holes to mount these screws outside the bowl for splash guard installation.
Some of these cannot contain mounting screws, and you can use adhesive materials for their installation.
